Chicago, Illinois

In May, 2023 we made another "Factory Delivery" RV trip. This is the 4th time that we have done this, but we had always just picked up the RV before and never spent any time in Chicago. We decided to spend a few days in Chicago this time before picking up the RV. We really enjoyed the Chicago River Walk.

There are direct flights from Guadalajara to Chicago on two airlines. They both get in very late at night, or should I say early morning, one arriving at 12 am and the other at 1 am. We chose the "early" flight arriving at 12 am which was on VivaAirbus.

By the time we got off the plane, cleared immigrations, got our luggage, an cleared customs it was about 1:30 am. We had an issue one time in the past getting a hotel shuttle at that time, so I called the hotel several times before our departure to make sure that there wouldn't be any issues arriving and requesting a shuttle at that time. They assured me that it would be fine and they did come through!

The photos will tell the rest of the story of our 2 days in Chicago.

It was hazy that day. I didn't realize it at the time, but this may have come from the forest fires in Canada which we ran into again in the Grand Tetons.
Interesting restaurant. I'm not sure if this was for eating outside in the cold, Covid prevention or what, but wasn't in operation at the time we were there.
After we had walked around a bit we went inside the Apple Store to pick up my new iPhone 14 pro. Most of the remaining pics from out trip are from it.
They had lots of flowers around downtown.
We walked over to the Plaza of the Americas and I met this angel there.
This is a statue of Benito Juarez that was a gift from Mexico to the city of Chicago. It says that Benito Juarez declared "Among individuals as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace".
We were getting hungry and saw Lou's Famous Chicago Style Pizza right there and so decided to go in.
Lots of different beer to choose from. Don't remember what this one was, but some kind of IPA.
And here it is! Delicious! Had lots of sausage in it.
We arrived a little early, but by the time we left it was almost full.
Guess who?
After pizza we took a long walk in both directions along the river.
Control tower for a draw bridge.
The draw bridge.
Going back the other direction toward Lake Michigan.
28 submarines built in Manitowoc, Wisconsin passed this spot on their way to war after Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941.
Marina at the lake.
Navy Pier in the distance.
Navy Pier. It is a tourist area now. We were tired and so didn't spend any time here. Ordered an Uber and went back to the hotel.
